OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICES

Drexel University offers occupational health services, both preventative and prophylactic, to all employees.

Each employee is provided a Guideline for Occupational Health Services form at their new hire orientation. This form includes descriptions of routine work activities expected to be performed by the employee and is used to determine whether pre-placement or preventative medical services are required.  In some instances, a physical examination may be part of the process.  The physical assessment is intended to create a baseline analysis of the employee’s health prior to working with specific agents or chemicals. Other preventative or pre-placement services may include vaccinations, blood draws / screening and baseline medical monitoring.  Additional medical services may be recommended by the attending clinician and/or EHRS prior to the approval of protocols involving the use of certain hazardous chemicals, drugs, or toxins and or etiologic / pathogenic agents.

Prophylactic services are also offered in case of accidental exposure.  Prophylactic services may include basic first aid, wound care, post exposure evaluation, vaccination and or the administration of prophylactic medication.

The service is provided at several locations:

In addition to the initial physical or screening, employees may need follow-up services or an annual health review by university’s occupational healthcare provider. If required these employees will be notified by EHRS.
