Professor Susan L. Brooks is exporting some of her expertise in experiential legal education to far flung places as a member of a delegation organized by Bridges Across Borders Southeast Asia. 

Brooks, the associate dean for experiential learning, guest taught a legal ethics class at the law school of Chiang Mai University in Thailand, where she also led a workshop on relational lawyering and communication for interns and staff of the non-profit BABSEA’s Continuing Legal Education program. 

The trip is enabling Brooks to see BABSEA’s programs firsthand, which could spark additional experiential learning opportunities for students in the future. 

“We frequently hear of students who are interested in international law and human rights,” Brooks noted.

While in Southeast Asia, Brooks will also prepare for and take part in the Inaugural Clinical Legal Education Conference at Yangon University in Myanmar from July 12-14. 

The goal of the conference is to help craft plans for training community leaders about making use of the legal system to advance human rights in the nation, which is transitioning toward democracy.
