Gina Yacovelli, DHSc, joined the Health Administration department in August 2019. Yacovelli was elected as the Delegate for the 2022-2023 year for New Jersey Health Information Management Association (NJHIMA). Yacovelli holds a Master of Arts in Teaching Degree from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA, and holds a Doctoral Degree in Health Sciences from Drexel University also in Philadelphia, PA. Yacovelli has 18 years of experience in education and holds professional certifications including certified coding specialist (CCS), certified coding specialist-physician-based (CCS-P), certified professional coder (CPC), certified professional medical auditor (CPMA) certified evaluation and management coder (CEMC), and certified professional biller (CPB). Yacovelli was instrumental in rewriting the medical coding curriculum to meet national board standards at the institution where she previously studied. She also updated the AAPC CPC test prep program which allowed many students to obtain their AAPC credentials. Yacovelli quickly advanced in her career by becoming a coding and compliance specialist for consulting firms auditing medical records for several large hospital organizations.

Research Interests
Evaluation & Management coding, Neurosurgery coding, and Proper Documentation in Medical Student Progress Notes.
