Professor Leslie Meltzer Henry of the University of Maryland School of Law and the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics will discuss issues surrounding research conducted by social media companies. Facebook has admitted it engaged in deceptive research on nearly 700,000 users without informed consent and then published its findings in a scientific journal. OKCupid has also conducted research on its users. This discussion will explore existing federal and state regulations and the need for reforms to protect consumers in the digital age.
