Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management

The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management prepares students for leadership positions in restaurant operations, the tourism industry, event planning, casino management, hotel administration and  other operational and administrative roles.

The hospitality industry is booming, both regionally and globally. Drexel’s BS in Hospitality Management allows students to live and study in one of the most historic and vibrant cities in the world. Just steps from Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station, one of the busiest transportation hubs in the country,  and in close proximity to the airport, Drexel gives students a front row seat - not only to international hotel chains, event planning organizations, casinos and some of the nation’s best restaurants - but quick access to New York City, Washington D.C., Boston, Baltimore and to flights across the globe. Our connections to the international hospitality industry set our students on the road to success, even before graduating. 

CURRICULUM

The BS Hospitality Management provides a well-rounded education from an operational, analytical and administrative perspective. In addition, we include core business courses that will allow graduates of the program to excel in any aspect of the hospitality industry.

In addition to a BS in Hospitality Management, students will earn a minor from Drexel’s LeBow College of Business. This curriculum is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the fundamentals of hospitality and business management. Course topics include: operations management, customer service, revenue management, human resources and administration, economics, marketing and more.

FACULTY

Our faculty are a mix of expert academics, researchers and highly accomplished practitioners. They represent a variety of specializations ranging from global tourism to restaurant and beverage management, to event planning, hotel administration and gaming. Faculty members are active in helping students understand employment and interest options in the hospitality industry. They take pride in placing students in positions that suit their interest and career objectives. Faculty supported research, networking, experiential learning and right-fit co-op opportunities enhance the student's experience and work to build their industry network.

CO-OP

One of Drexel’s most defining characteristics is its co-op program. The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management is a five year program with three six-month cooperative education experiences. Transfer students may elect to enroll in the program without a co-op.

The benefits of co-op are clear. Students gain exposure to industry leaders, real world experience in the career of their choice and a relevant resume before even graduating. 

Our caring faculty and staff work closely with each student to help them realize their ideal co-op placement. Some of our students have recently completed their co-op with organizations such as AKA Hotel Residences, Borgata Hotel Casino, Garces Restaurant Group, Vetri Family of Restaurants, Four Seasons Hotel, Walt Disney World Co., Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, Sugarhouse Casino, Hilton Hotels, Ritz Carlton Hotels, Sofitel Hotel and more.

BS/MBA ACCELERATED PROGRAM

Drexel’s BS/MBA accelerated degree program offers select candidates an opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science and an MBA degree simultaneously. The result is a powerful, nationally recognized credential from one of the country’s most established providers of higher education.

Students enjoy the best of Drexel’s unique benefits and participate in two co-operative placements (for their undergraduate and graduate coursework) that require six months of full-time work in a position related to their field of interest.

During their final year at Drexel, students earn an MBA from Drexel’s LeBow College of Business and acquire the skills of strategic management, managerial finance, international business, entrepreneurship, leadership and ethics.
Students who elect the MBA program are required to take 51 credits which includes coursework in a focused concentration. Students are required to meet with their graduate advisor to determine a plan of study prior to beginning the MBA portion of their education. The MBA coursework begins during the summer quarter immediately after graduation. 

INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

All Drexel students have the opportunity to study abroad in countries all over the globe. In addition, BS Hospitality Management students have an opportunity to take major-specific courses in Rome, Italy.

MINORS

Upon completion of the BS Hospitality Management students will receive a minor in Business Administration from Drexel’s LeBow College of Business. The plan of study also allows 24 credits of free electives or the completion of an additional minor. Students will work with their academic advisor to select the course of study that works best for them. 

THE DENNIS GOMES CASINO TRAINING LAB

For those students who are interested in casino operations and management we offer the Dennis Gomes Memorial Casino Training Lab. The casino training lab offers students a live operational experience of slot machine protocols and mock customer interactions in a real-time learning atmosphere. Going beyond the standard text books and field trips, the slot machines enable students to study the operational elements of electronic gaming equipment. This makes Drexel the first university on the East Coast to provide on-site casino gaming equipment for educational purposes.
