Resilience-Focused Therapeutic Songwriting for Adolescent Bereavement

Katherine is a second-year Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Creative Arts Therapies and a Board-Certified Music Therapist. She completed her doctoral studies at Drexel and works in Dr. Joke Bradt's Music, Creativity, and Wellness Lab as Study Coordinator of the Pain Management Support Study for Patients with Advanced Cancer (R01). Her clinical work and research focus on developing and evaluating strength-based music therapy interventions for youth who have experienced trauma and loss. Dr. Myers-Coffman has presented her work nationally and internationally, published articles in Music Therapy Perspectives, The International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Wellbeing, and The American Journal of Dance Therapy, and contributed a co-authored chapter in the Handbook of Arts-Based Research.

Dr. Myers-Coffman will talk about a resilience-focused songwriting intervention she developed and conducted exploratory testing on during her doctoral studies and how she continues building on this research as part of her postdoctoral work.

School-Based Interventions Influencing Nutrition Education and Nutrition Behaviors in Children

Abigail is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the federally-funded Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) grant in the Department of Nutrition Sciences. She completed her doctoral studies at Drexel under the supervision of Dr. Stella Volpe. Abby’s research focus is on school-based interventions and the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity. Dr. Gilman has presented her work regionally and nationally, co-authored several abstracts and book chapters, and has several manuscripts in submission for peer-review.

Presentation Description: Dr. Gilman will present on her current research as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. She will be discussing a research study she conducted this year in a Philadelphia Charter School, and how this work will impact the continued efforts of SNAP-Ed programming in the future.
