Where to Report

On Commencement day, graduates are expected to report to a designated robing location at least one hour before the start of their ceremony.

All graduates except for doctoral degree recipients robe in the Drexel Recreation Center adjacent to the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The list at the bottom contains all robing locations, organized by ceremony and robing group.

Doctoral degree recipients and their supervising professors robe in the Daskalakis Athletic Center Wrestling Room 025. All other faculty robe in the Varsity Weight Room (Room 045) in the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

Robing and Marching

When you arrive at your robing room, please pick up the white card that has been preprinted with your name. You will be asked to form a single-file line in any order within your degree group. When Commencement begins, marshals will lead you into the Daskalakis Athletic Center and then to your seating area. Doctoral students should stay with your advisors, ensuring that you can walk together when you are called to the stage.

Some hints for robing:

  • The hood should be worn with the velvet facing away from your robe.
  • To keep the hood in place, use a safety pin or wrap the string on the front of the hood around a button on your shirt.
  • After the hood is attached, ask someone to help you slightly turn the edges of the back of the hood to allow your school colors to show.
  • Tassels go to your right until your degree is conferred.

If you are graduating from a BS/MS or other accelerated program:

  • Purchase and wear the regalia for the highest degree you are receiving.
  • Sit with the other accelerated students in your college, school or department.
  • You will cross the stage once; both degrees will be announced.

Receiving Your Degree

Drexel takes pride in recognizing each graduate individually at Commencement. In order to keep ceremonies a reasonable length, it is important that graduates follow the instructions of floor marshals and move quickly across the stage.

When it is time to recognize graduates, your dean or director will invite your degree group to stand, and President Fry will confer your degree. Floor marshals will then direct you to the stage. Your photograph will be taken as you approach the stage.

Once on the stage, please:

  1. Hand the white card to the official at the end of the podium and step to the taped line as your name is called.
  2. Walk to Provost Greenberg, shake hands and receive congratulations.
  3. Receive a scroll and shake hands with President Fry. Please take the scroll in your left hand so your right hand is free to shake hands. Your photograph will be taken with President Fry.
  4. Walk to your dean or director to shake hands and receive congratulations.
  5. Greet Dean of Students David Ruth, who will congratulate you and present you with a gift
  6. Exit the stage and return to your seat. Your picture will be taken again when you reach the bottom of the ramp.

Your scroll will contain information and congratulations for graduates. Your actual diploma (if you are a spring graduate) will be mailed to the address you provided when you applied for your degree. You should receive it in 6 to 8 weeks.
