Aria Iuso is a senior Dance Major with a concentration in Performance, as well as a Somatics Minor. Hailing from New Orleans, Aria has been dancing since an early age, but she formally began taking classes at the age of 2. Her journey led her to the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, where she immersed herself in dance and solidified her passion for this expressive art form. Aria’s dance practice centers around modern and contemporary forms, with a special focus on the Horton Technique—an impetus for her Senior Project.

In addition to her dance pursuits, Aria holds a 200-hour certification as a yoga instructor, seamlessly integrating this practice into her dance and movement creations. Her project delves into the profound impact of Bella Lewitzky on modern dance. Specifically, Aria examines the Horton Technique, an area where Lewitzky exerted significant influence, even though her recognition often remains obscured. Through a feminist lens, Aria aims to uncover Lewitzky’s overlooked contributions alongside those of her male counterparts.

Aria’s research findings will culminate in a choreographic work, slated for showcase on May 18th, 2024, at the Mandell Theater. This performance will be presented alongside the Senior Projects of Grace Fisher and India Scott.
