Theatre Production

THTR Prod

Theatre Production Ensemble allows students to work in every area of technical theatre including lighting, sound, props, costumes, scenic carpentry and scenic painting.  Any student is free to participate by enrolling in either THTR 130 or THTR 132.

Additionally, students can apply for a production scholarship. Students gain admission to the ensemble after a successful interview. The requirements for Theatre Production scholarship include taking THTR 132 - the production ensemble class, consisting of scene shop hours, as well has having a position in one of the productions each quarter. Production positions include roles involved with the running of a show like light and sound board operators, stage crew, and wardrobe and stage management, but also include department head positions like master electrician and audio supervisor.

Students fill these roles in order to mount large scale productions each quarter in either our Black Box Theater, an experimental space that is flexibly configurable or the Mandell Theater, a 425 seat traditional proscenium space with a scene shop. Students work on a range of shows from dramas to comedies, musicals to dance. At least one show each year is a co-production with a professional producing company. Students gain experience by working with professionals in the field as well as professional designers on all Drexel productions.

Students have a chance to try their hand at design with director's lab. Director's lab are the finals for the directing class. This acts as a possible lighting, sound or costume design opportunity for students who are interested.
