Nine Drexel students and alumni were recommended as finalists for the prestigious Fulbright US Student Program for study or research abroad in 2014-15. We are so proud of these students, who have put enormous time and effort into designing compelling research projects, working on their application essays, and incorporating feedback from supportive readers.

After being chosen as finalists by national screening committees in the US, their applications have now been passed to the host countries for final selection. They hear in April or May whether they will receive the award.

Brad is proposing to collaborate with Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Finland to establish and implement a mobile nursing simulation center for rural areas of Finland.

Switzerland

Emily plans to conduct biomedical research at Switzerland’s École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, aimed at increasing the capacity of a specific protein to regenerate damaged cardiac tissue.

Matt D’Arcy

South Korea

Matt is passionate about aerospace research and is proposing to join the Space Systems Research Laboratory of Korea Aerospace University (KAU) to help facilitate the launch of KAUSAT-5, a lightweight, miniature cube-satellite.

Under the guidance of Drs. Schmitz and Hahn at Ruhr University, Amanda plans to work on the development of microbubbles to be used for targeted drug delivery.

Kerry is proposing to conduct a risk assessment of Brisbane’s roof-harvested rainwater in the laboratory of Dr. Simon Toze at Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

Lauren plans to study the impact of father-daughter communication on sexual decision-making among teens in Barbados, in collaboration with PAREDOS (Parent Education for Development in Barbados) and the University of West Indies.

Brazil

Adams plans to collaborate with a leader in indoor air quality, Roberto Lamberts of Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, to develop a labeling system for naturally ventilated buildings.

Hunter Snyder

Greenland

Through traditional and visual ethnography, Hunter seeks to explore the relationship Greenland’s Inuit have with labor and land in light of the transformations caused by mining activity in the Arctic.

Chelsea has proposed to investigate the effectiveness of a pediatric asthma education program in Pune, India, and to study the local language of Marathi while there.
