The science-fiction write Fredric Brown came up with a terrific story that runs exactly two sentences:

"The last man on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door."

As an exercise in our "Writing the Short Film" class, we gave that story to our students and asked them to adapt it for the screen. No more than three pages, but everything else is up to the writer. Is this a horror story? A drama? A comedy? Take a look:
