Student Activities & Clubs Research/Journals

The student organizations listed below are examples of clubs hosted by students and are often but not consistently recognized by the Office of Student Affairs and SGA. For a current list of currently recognized student organizations, please visit http://ducomsga.org/student-group-directory/.

Journal Club

The purpose of the Journal Club is to provide an opportunity for students to develop skills that allow them to critically analyze and evaluate medical literature. The goal is to have student presenters choose a journal article, evaluate its hypothesis, study design, method, and results in a systemic fashion and lead a discussion on the clinical applicability of their chosen article. This organization allows students a venue to appreciate the complexity and difficulty in searching for clinically relevant research topics and to appreciate the process of medical decision making required to generalize the findings of a particular study to a larger population. Students will facilitate a journal club session with guidance from the faculty mentor.

Medical Student Research Initiative

The Drexel Medical Student Research Initiative is a student-run organization that strives to foster a research and academically driven atmosphere at Drexel University College of Medicine through the establishment of a peer-reviewed medical student journal, research seminar series presented by students and a medical student specific research symposium. As an organization, we aim to create a program that provides the opportunities for students to showcase their research and educates students in different fields and aspect of academic medicine. By providing a platform for students to collaborate, engage in research and present their work, we hope to provide motivation, education and incentives to students to pursue a research or academically oriented career in medicine.
