The Expressive and Creative Interaction Technologies (ExCITe) Center was established in 2013 as a University-wide strategic initiative for research innovation. The Center pursues activities at the intersection of Technology, Design, and Entrepreneurship, a reframing of Drexel’s founding pillars of Art, Science, and Industry for the modern age. The highly multidisciplinary approach of ExCITe employs a diversity of perspectives to foster creativity, personal expression, curiosity, and collaboration.

The Center's activities span four primary areas:

  • Research: ExCITe is an incubator for novel multidisciplinary research activities in new and emerging areas, such as smart fabric wearables, videogame design, music and entertainment technologies, and humanoid robotics.
  • Education: Our participants pursue novel integrative approaches to teaching and learning using the framework of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, and Math)
  • Entrepreneurship: We support new ventures leveraging multidisciplinary collaboration through seed grants and partnerships with others in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
  • Civic Engagement: All ExCITe efforts emphasize public engagement, often in partnership with the community and civic organizations benefitting the Philadelphia region and beyond.

The ExCITe Center is a street-level, highly visible space at the corner of Market and 34th Streets in University City, serving as a showcase for multidisciplinary collaboration. Ultimately, ExCITe serves to integrate Drexel's leadership in technology, design and entrepreneurship for profound impact beyond the University.
