Delaware Valley Science Fairs
Mentorship Program

Dear
Colleague:
The
Delaware Valley Science Fairs, Inc., is in the process of refining the
Mentorship Program for students and teachers involved with research
projects.
The
science fair hosts students that live in a rich, scientific community
and we endeavor to have our students benefit from the technical
expertise around them. Many
of the top participants have had the benefit of mentorship.
We would like to extend this opportunity to more students that
would request technical support.
The
role of a mentor is to encourage and support future scientists and
engineers. The task need
not be a great demand of your time.
It could be as simple as a phone conversation or email with the
student or teacher. The
ideal situation would be to provide laboratory assistance with the
student and the research.
If
you elect to serve as a mentor, the program will be monitored carefully.
Every effort will be made to accommodate the mentor and the
student. Over the years we
have found students who are provided with the mentorship opportunity
become enthusiastic about their research and the fascinating world of
engineering and science. Throughout
the process students will be required to meet with their classroom
teacher and report on their investigations and the general progress of
the project.
We
will also follow up with you on the overall mentoring process and the
progress of the student and the research.
Your role in the process is a vital key to the learning
experience of the students. A
small portion of your time and expertise can make a lifetime of
difference for these students. Your willingness to mentor students is
greatly appreciated.
