    How to Enable WEP Encryption

If you are connecting to dragonfly2 or dragonfly, you will need a WEP encryption key, which you should have received when you registered your wireless device. If you have not registered, please register your wireless device now.

If you are connecting to dragonfly3, it uses a different encryption method, not WEP. Follow this link for instructions for connecting to dragonfly3.

To enable WEP encryption to connect to dragonfly2 or dragonfly, see the instructions for your operating system:

    Windows XP

In order to enable the WEP encryption for a Windows XP machine you need to go through the following steps:

    1. Click on the Start button and then click on Control Panel.
    2. Next click on Network and Internet Connections.
    3. Then click on Network Connections at the bottom right.
    4. Right-click on the Wireless Network Connection and click on Properties.
    5. In the Preferred Networks section of the window select dragonfly or dragonfly2 then click on the Properties button.
    6. In the Wireless Network Properties window make sure that all of the settings for WEP follow the picture below.
    7. Next, click the "Authentication" tab and verify that the checkbox next to "Enable IEEE..." is NOT checked.
    8. Click OK to close the "dragonfly properties" window.

    Mac OS X

When you try to connect to the dragonfly wireless network you may be prompted for a password. The WEP key is that password. Simply click the AirPort icon in the menu bar (OS X) or control strip (OS 9 and earlier) and select dragonfly. When prompted for the password, enter the WEP key, check the box to Add to Keychain and then click OK. If you encounter any problems going through these steps there are more detailed instructions below.

    1. Either click on the System Preferences icon on the bottom of the screen or from the Apple menu click on System Preferences.
    2. Click on the Network icon.
    3. Click on Airport.
    4. Click on the "Connect..." button.
    5. Click the arrow box for Network, select dragonfly.
    6. For Wireless Security, select WEP 40/128-bit ASCII.
    7. Type in the WEP encryption key in the Password field. You will get the WEP key when you register your wireless device.
    8. Click the OK button.

You must also make sure that you have registered your wireless card for the dragonfly network. If you need to do that please register your wireless device. If the above directions did not help you connect to the wireless network please call the Help Desk at (215) 895-2020 or bring your laptop to the consultant's desk in the front of the Korman Center.
