WebCT Vista may cause conflicts on systems which run a firewall. To ensure that Vista runs properly it is recommended that firewalls be configured to run with Vista. The following users will need to configure their firewall:

Configuring a Firewall for older versions of Windows

If you are running an older version of Windows than XP, any firewall program you may be running must be a third party firewall program as Windows did not contain any built in firewall. In order to configure your third party firewall software which may be conflicting with your Vista experience, please consult the software documentation for instructions.

You will need to enable communication through ports 80, 443 and 2304. Connections through port 80 should go through fine, you should only need to add ports 443 and 2304 if you are experiencing problems.

Configuring the Firewall - Mac OS X

By default, the Firewall is disabled on the Mac in OSX. However, if the firewall was previously enabled, you must configure it to allow Vista to operate properly. In order to do that you need to allow communication through ports 80, 443 and 2304. Connections through port 80 should go through fine, you should only need to add ports 443 and 2304 if you are experiencing problems.

    1. Open up the System Preferences
    2. Under the Internet & Networking heading click on Sharing
    3. Click on the Firewall tab
    4. Click New
    5. Select Other from the drop down menu
    6. Enter one of the port numbers (443 or 2304)
    7. Enter a description for the number (HTTPS or Vista Chat & Whiteboard)
    8. Click OK
