Drexel Police

Policing and Security

Drexel University's Department of Public Safety works hard to ensure a safe environment and improved quality of life on Drexel's campuses through effective community policing and security practices. Public Safety maintains a full-time presence to secure the University City Campus with organized deployment of Drexel police officers and Allied Universal security personnel. On the Center City Campus, Drexel Public Safety works in coordination with the Philadelphia Police Department to respond to incidents. The Queen Lane Campus has a Drexel police officer assigned on campus for 40 hours per week, with availability depending on the campus' schedule. Drexel Police do not patrol or investigate incidents on the Malvern Campus of the LeBow College of Business; please contact 9-1-1 to report these emergencies.

Drexel Police

Drexel University Police are trained in many specialized areas, including:

  • First Aid, CPR and use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs);
  • crisis and hostage negotiation;
  • investigations;
  • crime prevention and education; and
  • community outreach.

Officers patrol by foot, vehicle and bicycle to support community policing. Drexel Police maintain communication with the following law enforcement agencies to share strategic and investigative information and to ensure a prompt and coordinated law enforcement response:

  • Philadelphia Police Department;
  • University of Pennsylvania Police Department;
  • SEPTA Police;
  • Amtrak Police; and
  • Philadelphia Housing Authority Police.

Officers consult regularly with students, faculty and professional staff to discuss crime prevention and safety issues, encouraging collaboration to promote safety on campus.

Security Officers

Drexel University contracts with Allied Universal Security Services, the largest private security provider in the United States. Allied Universal provides security officer services to colleges and universities nationwide and has been a recognized industry leader pioneering many standards used to keep businesses and communities safe. Allied Universal security officers patrol the University City, Center City and Queen Lane campuses via foot, bicycle and vehicle.

Security officers receive training, including First Aid/CPR/AED, customer service/relations, patrol practices and terrorism awareness. They are positioned to provide emergency response services, fixed-post security, pedestrian and traffic safety, event security and safety awareness. Security officers are also available as walking escorts for students, faculty and professional staff on campus. Security officers do not have the authority to make arrests.

Additionally, Drexel College of Medicine West Reading Campus has 24/7 contract security services available at the lobby desk and an officer who conducts roving patrols. The contact number for this service is 484.659.8100.

University City Campus

Patrol borders extend from 30th to 36th Streets and Chestnut to Spring Garden Streets. Drexel University Police maintain full-time presence at the University City Campus. Security services are provided by Allied Universal, a contracted security partner.

Queen Lane Campus

Queen Lane Campus patrol does not extend beyond the highlighted borders. On-campus security is provided by Allied Universal, a contracted security partner. A Drexel police officer is assigned 40 hours per week to the Queen Lane Campus, whose availability varies depending on events and schedule of the campus.
