The Black History Month Community Showcase:#BlackLivesMatter

Friday, February 12, 2016

7:00 PM-10:00 PM

A collective of student organizers at the University of Pennsylvania and members of the Philadelphia community present The Black History Month Community Showcase: #BlackLivesMatter. This showcase will feature performances by artists who will share expressions of black joy, black love, black suffering, and hope in the midst of chaotic times. As of late, the relentless violence against communities of color has been difficult to bear, thus leading us to conceive the theme of this showcase which pays tribute to the Black Lives Matter movement. Join us on February 12th as we celebrate life through art, and honor ourselves and members of our community who are involved in social justice work that positively impacts the lives of people of color. Our wish is to create an affirming space and platform where our community can join forces, lift our voices, and celebrate life despite it all. Featuring performances by Jasmine Mans, Laurin Talese, The Clutch Collective, Babel Poetry, The Hood Lockers, The Excelano Project, Melanie Hill, I Am Phresh Crew, Drexel African Dance, Margel the Sophant, Lenora Magee Howard, Just Sole, DJ Afrodjiak and more. Doors open at 6:30pm. Show starts at 7pm. Free and open to the public with suggested donation. Proceeds for this showcase will go towards a Philadelphia organization doing social justice work that positively impacts the lives of people of color. This organization will be honored on the evening of the showcase.
