Although forecasts threatened rain and a possible move indoors, Drexel’s annual Earth Day Block Party went off as planned in the sun on Lancaster Walk last week.

“The weather has held up. It’s great,” said Althea Wallace, director of programs and events in Drexel Human Resources, sporting sunglasses at her organization’s table last Wednesday. “Earth Day needs to be outside.”

Twenty-five organizations, ranging from companies that sell solar panels to those that pick up recycling and Drexel student organizations, occupied tables along the well-trafficked University City Campus walkway.

“This is a great opportunity for the Drexel community to come together to honor and celebrate the University’s ongoing commitment to being a leader in environmental stewardship and sustainability,” said Irene Tsikitas Lin, director of communications for Drexel Administrative and Business Services, which co-sponsored/hosted the event with the Sustainability Council.

Other events championing the environment and reducing wastefulness were held at Drexel’s other campuses, Center City and Queen Lane, Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
