Mark Trombetta, MD, has been named academic chair of radiologic sciences. He has served as interim academic chair since 2021. A professor of radiation oncology, he has been an active and valued contributor to the College through service on numerous committees, including those focused on MD program admissions, faculty appointments and faculty development.

James B. Reilly, MD, MSHP, has been appointed academic chair of the Department of Medicine. He is also senior vice president of academic affairs at Allegheny Health Network and regional associate dean for the College of Medicine. Meera Harhay, MD, MSCE, has been named vice chair of research for the department. She also serves as medical director of clinical research in the College of Medicine’s Office of the Vice Dean for Research and Innovation.

Erum N. Ilyas, MD ’01, MBE, has been appointed academic chair of Drexel University College of Medicine’s provisional Department of Dermatology. Dr. Ilyas has been serving as interim chair of the department since January 2024. She has been a College of Medicine faculty member since 2016 and has served as the Dermatology Pathway director since 2021.

Over the summer, 11 College of Medicine faculty members mentored undergraduate student researchers through the Pennoni Honors College STAR (Students Tackling Advanced Research) Scholars Program. STAR gives first-year Drexel students the opportunity to gain research experience during the summer after their freshman year, and this Thursday they’ll present the projects they contributed to at the STAR Summer Showcase.
