Thomas A. Masci Jr. ‘68, a Drexel alumnus and parent, U.S. Army veteran, and co-founder of Health Advocate, Inc., exemplifies a legacy of support and commitment to his alma mater. Masci, who studied accounting at Drexel, went on to co-found Health Advocate, Inc., a healthcare advocacy company, where he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Since graduating in 1968, Masci has witnessed significant change at Drexel. Whether through his own educational journey or by observing his daughter’s and nephew’s experiences at Drexel, Masci has been consistently impressed by the University’s ability to provide an excellent education, particularly through the co-op program.

“I’ve seen three phases of the schooling at Drexel, and I’ve always felt it was a good school. I received an excellent education that provided the best opportunities for my chosen field,” said Masci.

Masci's commitment to giving back to Drexel is remarkable. Over three decades, he has consistently supported the University and played a pivotal role in various initiatives. His philanthropy extends from the Commuter Students Community to LeBow’s Accounting Department and numerous veterans’ programs. His generosity has left a significant impact, leading to the creation of the Masci Family Accounting Lobby and the Masci Family Student Veterans Lounge, as well as the improvement of services for veterans at Drexel. Most recently Masci supported the Military Transition Program (MTP) Speaker Series hosted by the Goodwin College of Professional Studies. Open to all MTP students, the series features guest speakers who share their knowledge on special topics such as mental health, post-military life and service animals.

Masci’s military service has profoundly shaped his approach to leadership and philanthropy. Having experienced the highs and lows of military life, his support for veterans and military-dependents extends far beyond his own service.

"I’ve always been an advocate for veterans, not just because of my own service, but because of those around me who also served,” said Masci. “Drexel’s commitment to veterans makes it easier for me to be a supporter of Drexel.”

In addition to his financial contributions, Masci generously invests his time to Drexel’s initiatives. In September, he attended Drexel’s event welcoming new veterans and military dependents to campus. Masci shared his experiences and offered advice to incoming students. He encouraged current students to make the most of Drexel's co-op program for practical experience and skill development. “The co-op program is a great opportunity. Whatever your field of study, put your mind to it and attend to it,” he emphasized. Throughout the year, Masci also attends events, including those during Military Appreciation Month and Alumni Weekend.

To honor his selfless service and impact on the community, Masci was inducted into the inaugural Drexel University ROTC Hall of Fame in 2016. He was also inducted into the Drexel 100 in 2019. Launched in 1992, this prestigious group is the University’s alumni hall of fame, dedicated to recognizing and honoring outstanding alumni who have made significant contributions to their profession, community or the University. Making it especially meaningful, new members are elected by the current Drexel 100 membership.

Masci’s hope is that Drexel will continue to deliver high-quality education with a special emphasis on supporting veterans and military dependents. His dedication to both Drexel and the Center for Military and Veteran Services, along with Goodwin College’s Military Transition Program, illustrates the profound impact of one individual's commitment to their alma mater can have.
