The Drexel Concert Band comprises over 70 musicians from across the university, and is the premier concert band ensemble within the Department of Performing Arts. Students gain admission to the ensemble through a successful audition. The ensemble presents one concert (free to the public) at the end of each academic term, performing the finest wind band repertoire from each period of musical history (classical, jazz, and chamber). In addition, the ensemble engages itself through collaborative projects that include performances with guest soloists/conductors, and dance ensembles.
Recent highlights of the Drexel Concert Band include its performance at the Kimmel Center of Philadelphia in February 2012 (under the direction of the late Dr. Myron D. Moss, Director of Band from 2006-2012), concert performance with guest conductor Maestro Filippo Salemmi (Bevagna, Italy) in Winter 2013, and premiere performances of two works by composers Luke Abruzzo and Mark Kuss for The Composer & The Choreography: New Music for Dance, featuring the Drexel Dance Ensembles (Dr. Miriam Giguere, Program Director) and choreographies of Meredith Rainey and Olive Prince.
All students who are interested in joining the Drexel Concert Band are to contact Dr. Wesley J. Broadnax (conductor) at email@example.com, or the Department of Performing Arts at (215) 895-2451.
