Naturally Sharp

Naturally Sharp (Vocal Jazz Ensemble) is a select group of 15 singers, chosen by audition in the fall from the University Chorus.

Naturally Sharp performs "anything that swings," doing a variety of pieces from the past 100 years with a three-piece back-up band. Many of the singers also do solos. We provide costumes (gowns and tuxes), and performers are expected to be able to move, although the show is not choreographed.

The group performs frequently off-campus at venues including malls, banquet halls and retirement homes.

The group rehearses once a week, on Monday evenings from 7:30-9:20 in the Main Auditorium.

Audition information:

The Naturally Sharp audition consists of singing a prepared solo.* Sight reading is useful, but not required. There will be a sign-up sheet at the first University Chorus rehearsal of the fall term.

*the prepared solo for Naturally Sharp should be a jazz or show tune, preferably with piano accompaniment; we will provide an accompanist. Taped accompaniment is discouraged but can be accomodated.
