Readmission

Students who have not registered for one or more academic year(s)

Undergraduate students previously enrolled at Drexel University who have not registered for any course for more than one academic year, who wish to be readmitted, should contact the Westphal Office of Student Services. Readmission to any Westphal College program is dependent upon the length of time since last enrolled and on whether or not space is available. Minimum requirements for readmission are as follows:

  • Applicant was previously accepted into a degree program at Drexel University
  • Applicant maintained a term and cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher
  • Applicant has no student holds (e.g., financial) that will impede readmission
  • Applicant was not dismissed due to academic dishonesty or any misconduct that violates the University's Student Code of Conduct. For details on student conduct, please review the Official Student Handbook.

If readmission is granted, applicant will be required to sign an Application for Readmission form before readmission may be processed.

*Any incomplete or unresolved grade will be considered an "F" unless evidence of the filing of a formal "Change of Grade" form or an approved "Drop/Withdraw" can be readily ascertained.

Reinstatement

Students dismissed for academic reasons:

Undergraduate students who have been dismissed from the University for Poor Scholarship have the right to appeal the decision.

Prior to the beginning of the term following dismissal, the student is contacted by registered mail as well as telephone, for the purpose of scheduling an appointment with the Westphal College's Academic Appeals Committee

  • Academic Appeals Committee meetings are held the first day of each new term
  • The student will schedule a meeting with the Academic Appeals Committee to determine if reinstatement is allowable
  • Appeal appointments will be scheduled in the order that students call the Office of Student Services

The purpose of this meeting is to determine if the student can successfully complete the remaining curriculum and thus a comprehensive review of the following will contribute to the decision to approve or deny reinstatement:

  • The student will provide a written account describing what he/she feels led to the dismissal, his/her plan to correct those problems and why he/she wishes to reenter the respective undergraduate program.
  • A review of Drexel University past academic performance;
  • A review of transcripts, if any, of academic performance at other institutions while not attending Drexel University
  • Student's future academic and professional goals

If an appeal is successful, the student will be required to meet with his/her Academic Advisor to develop a revised plan of study/sequence sheet to ensure academic progress. Additionally, the student must sign an Authorization for Reinstatement from Academic Dismissal form before his/her reinstatement may be processed.

Any subsequent academic dismissal action for which the student has not met the agreed upon academic progress goals will result in final dismissal from the Westphal College.

The determinations to approve or deny reinstatement to Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design are final.
