Westphal in Hollywood

July 8, 2015

This summer marks the fifth year that Westphal students from Film & Video, Screenwriting & Playwriting, Television, Digital Media and related programs will travel to Los Angeles for the Drexel in LA experience, spending a full term interning and studying in the city where many will find work after graduation. This year, 36 students will gain valuable experience and skills through internships at leading entertainment companies including DreamWorks, the Downtown Film Festival LA, Collective Digital Studios, the American Film Institute, New Horizons Picture Corp., Safe House Pictures, Hammer Creative, Crest Animation, Aero Film, and AFI Conservatory Directing Workshop for Women, among others. Some students will stay on to do their co-ops in Los Angeles, getting nine months of experience and exposure to this capital of the American film and television industries.

Since 2011, the Drexel in LA program has immersed hundreds of Westphal undergraduates in the center of the entertainment world where they’re able to begin creating important industry networks. Students live and take classes in the comfortable Orsini apartment complex while in the program, which is led by Screenwriting & Playwriting Professor Ian Abrams.

Past student participants have held internships at Brave New Films, College Humor, SAG Foundation, Interloper Films, International Documentary Association, BBC Worldwide Productions, MGM-HD, Writers Guild Foundation Library and many more.
