Macy's Chief Executive

April 30, 2014

Terry Lundgren, Chairman, President & CEO of retail powerhouse Macy's, Inc. is this year’s Design & Merchandising Distinguished Speaker and recipient of the third  annual Westphal Award. Mr. Lundgren will join us for a lecture and award ceremony on Wednesday, May 28 at 6:30 pm in the URBN Annex Screening Room (3401 Filbert St.) with a reception immediately following. At that time, he will give a talk to students, faculty and industry insiders that offers insight on fashion, merchandising and the changing world of retail.

Known widely as a visionary and innovator in the world of retail, Lundgren has served as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Macy’s, Inc. since 2004. Currently, the company is expanding its mobile and online presence to offer clients increasingly new and different ways to shop. Macy’s is also in the process of undergoing a $400 million renovation to its flagship store in New York City, which is America’s biggest department store and one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations, drawing more than six million visitors each year.

The Westphal Award—named in honor of the late Antoinette Westphal, a Drexel graduate and longtime supporter of the College—is awarded to a leader in one of the many fields of design, media and arts taught at Westphal. Mr. Lundgren will be given the award in recognition of his leadership in the fashion and retailing industry and for his efforts that inspire and nurture the creative economy and the next generation of leaders in the design and merchandising industries. It has previously been awarded to former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts and Neiman Marcus Fashion Director Ken Downing.
