The graduate Arts Administration program will host distinguished arts researcher, Alan Brown, as a Rankin Scholar in Residence on Monday, April 28. A renowned management consultant in the nonprofit arts industry, Brown will lead a presentation and Q&A session with current students, alumni, and the public at 6:30 pm in the URBN Center Annex Screening Room (3401 Filbert St.). During the presentation Brown will share valuable insights on new strategies and approaches used by arts organizations in building demand for the arts in a rapidly changing cultural landscape. Brown is a widely published author who studies the impact of arts experiences, as well as the development of measurement systems that communities can use to track public engagement with the arts. Among his myriad research efforts, he has recently led projects with the National Endowment for the Arts, Theatre Bay Area, the Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth College, Australia Council for the Arts,  and a 2013-14 project commissioned by Grantmakers in the Arts to develop a new national benchmarking system for tracking institutional support of individual artists.

“Alan Brown’s residency is key to providing our Arts Administration students with an experiential understanding of important trends and emerging opportunities. We are thrilled to bring him to campus to share his insights with our students and our region’s arts and cultural leaders,” said Neville Vakharia, Arts Administration Assistant Professor and Research Director. As a consultant Brown has helped institutions, foundations and agencies see new opportunities, make informed decisions and respond to changing conditions. To explore his work, click here.
