New Department Head of Media Arts

March 20, 2013

E. June Roberts-Lunn, Graphic Design Professor, has been appointed as Department Chair of Media Arts effective Spring 2013. She will succeed David Raizman who will be returning to teaching art and design history full time and whose service has been greatly appreciated.

Roberts-Lunn began at in 2002, earning tenure and a promotion to Associate Professor in 2008. She teaches such courses as logo design, corporate identity, book and publication design, thesis, and professional portfolio. She has chaired the College Curriculum Committee, served as Competitions Coordinator for her program (overseeing 115 wins of student work in one year alone), and acted as Drexel chapter liaison with the American Institute of Graphic Arts.

During the academic year 2012/13 Roberts-Lunn has taken a research sabbatical to work on a project focusing on how the “paperless society” is affecting graphic design. And, thanks to a Westphal Faculty Grant, she recently traveled to England to study reference material at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the University of Reading, and the Museum of Brands.

In 2013, Roberts-Lunn had two wins in the American Graphic Design and Advertising Awards. One for a promotional ad for her own design studio, Speedy Motorcycle, and one for a poster she designed for the theatre series “A Play, A Pie and A Pint”. She has produced work for such clients as Johnson & Johnson, Ocean Spray, Castrol, Nickelodeon, Starwood Hotels, Children’s Television Workshop, Timberland, Good Humor, Lipton, Home Goods, the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, and PBS.

June tells us that she is eager and honored to take on this new role where she will represent the Graphic Design and Photography programs. “Both programs are comprised of top-level faculty members with impressive experiences,” said Roberts-Lunn. “And it is a direct result of their commitment that the student work and professional achievements are so exceptional in this department.”
