Graphic Design Saves A Yearbook

November 28, 2012 —

When Graphic Design Professor Shushi Yoshinaga’s former client, Andrew Phillip, a faculty member of the Philadelphia Charter School for Architecture and Design (CHAD), told her that there would be no yearbook for the class of 2012, Shushi offered to help. She pioneered the first design mentor program between Westphal students and students at CHAD. Twelve Graphic Design students and one Digital Media student worked from February to May with CHAD students serving as design mentors to create a printed yearbook the students could be proud of. Westphal students helped with the content management, design, and production of the 2012 yearbook and Professor Yoshinaga found a printer who agreed to print the 60-page, hard cover book at an affordable price. “Our Drexel students truly were great mentors and coaches, providing motivation and inspiration,” said Professor Yoshinaga.

As the second year of the design mentor program is about to begin, please join us in congratulating our dedicated student mentors who led the founding effort: Jackie Schlindwein, Ashley MacDonald, Tawonabvinandi Chimimba, Halimatu Bakarr, Kelly Lender, James Mocko, Bethany Robinson, Luis Quevedo, Mio Kobayashi, Lauren Poole, Lynda Ferguson, Samson Mshelia, and Eric Friedensohn.
