New Spinning Leaves Release

May 14, 2012

In the five years that Barbara Gettes and Michael Baker have been performing as Philadelphia-based folk duo The Spinning Leaves, they have captured the attention of the local and national music scene with their vibrant musical craftsmanship. They've produced two highly-regarded albums, several musical collaborations, and a showcasing collective for Philadelphia artists. Staying true to their bohemian roots and mix of eccentric instrumentation, The Spinning Leaves have channeled their energy into a new 7” EP, head aglow, that will be released April 27th by Westphal’s student-run label, MAD Dragon Records (MDR).  MDR is supported in part by the Westphal College’s Kal & Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies. To celebrate the release of head aglow, The Spinning Leaves will host a record release show on April 27th at one of Philadelphia’s newest venues, Underground Arts (1200 Callowhill Street).  The duo will then embark on a one-month tour throughout the south.

The Spinning Leaves have produced an album that reflects their versatility and years as leaders of the folk community in Philadelphia. They've consistently created songs incorporating a high-spirited and undaunted mix of vocals, stomps, lush horns and such varied instrumentation as the sitar, oud, and wooden pump organ. This new 7” EP Record sees The Spinning Leaves collaborating with renowned producer Henry Hirsch at Waterfront Studios in Hudson, NY.  Hirsch is well known for his work with Lenny Kravitz, Mick Jagger, Madonna, and Lionel Richie among others.  Visit www.thespinningleaves.com for more information.
