MAD Dragon Concert
May 14, 2012 — The 6th Annual MAD Dragon Concert will feature five artists that are part of Making Moves, the new 7-inch series curated by individual members of the indie-rock band Motion City Soundtrack. In addition to a headlining set by Motion City Soundtrack, the concert will feature A Great Big Pile of Leaves, Brick + Mortar, Gold Rush, and The Skies Revolt. Students in the MADKO concert promotion class handle all aspects of the concert's production and promotion, and students from DUTV will film the concert for broadcast later this year.
The concert is free and open exclusively to Drexel students at the Mandell Theater, Wednesday, May 16th at 7 PM. After successful showcases at this year’s South by South West (SXSW) music conference, the Making Moves’ bands have been touring in support of their new album releases. Now is your chance to see Motion City Soundtrack and four breakout bands together on our stage.
MAD Dragon Records is our student-run record label, housed in the Music Industry program, that earlier this year announced the collaboration with Motion City Soundtrack. Members of Motion City Soundtrack: Justin Pierre, Josh Cain, Matt Taylor, Jesse Johnson and Tony Thaxton produced all of the artists’ recordings in our studios with Music Industry program alumnus, Lenny Skolnick and Dave Petit, and undergraduate student Justin Chapman engineering the sessions.
Motion City Soundtrack has sold more than 600,000 records worldwide and played national and international rock festivals including the Leeds Festival and The Warped Tour.
Making Moves artists include: The Company We Keep (Detroit, MI), Brick + Mortar (Toms River, NJ), Goldrush (Richmond, VA), The Skies Revolt (Grand Rapids, MI), and A Great Big Pile of Leaves (Brooklyn, NY). The Company We Keep released the first 7 inch on April 24th. Click here to learn more about this ongoing collaboration. MAD Dragon Records is supported in-part by The Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies.
