Architecture Professor Paul Hirshorn will give the Spring ARFAA lecture on Tuesday, April 12th at 6:30 PM in the Mandell Theater (33rd & Chestnut Sts.). Paul's lecture, "What I Believe," will address his thoughts on architecture and education. After 37 years at Drexel, Paul will retire at the end of the academic year. Paul's connections and contributions to generations of students, colleagues and the profession are unparalled and we know Paul's talk will be insightful and entertaining.

Paul Hirshorn was Head of the Department of Architecture from 1986 to 2007, and Head of the Department of Architecture & Interiors from 2007 to 2010. During his twenty-four years of leadership, Westphal's unique work-study program has grown in size and quality, enriched by the unique 2+4 Option, the ARFAA Lecture Series, Summer Study Tours to Rome and Paris, and the Discovering Architecture program. Hirshorn is the co-author, with Steven Izenour, of White Towers, a 1979 study of signs and symbolism in commercial vernacular architecture, republished by MIT Press in 2007.  He also has a research interest in the development of the Philadelphia Row house as a sustainable housing type. The lecture is worth 2 AIA/CES Learning Units.
