January 6, 2011 — There will be four important Rankin Scholars in Residence coming to Westphal. On February 10th we welcome Movana Chen, known for her wearable art sculptures made from paper and old magazines. Hosted by Design & Merchandising program director, Anne Cecil, Chen will exhibit her work, visit classes, and lecture on her experiences as a Hong Kong based artist and curator. In mid-February the Pearlstein Gallery will feature work by Reiko Sudo, an innovative Japanese textile designer. Hosted by Fashion Design Professor Lisa Hayes, Sudo will exhibit her work and lecture. Beginning February 23rd our Rankin Scholars will be David Lemieux and Kevin Shapiro, archivists for The Grateful Dead and Phish respectively. Hosted by Music Industry professor Toby Seay, Lemieux and Shapiro will highlight their work in preserving these bands’ legacies. On February 24th, they will give a lecture about their work and experiences with two of the greatest jam bands of all times.

A few months later, in April, we will welcome Rankin Scholar Jeremy Ansely, a design educator, historian and curator. Hosted by Dr. David Raizman, Ansely will be on campus for a series of lectures, classroom presentations, critiques and informal meetings.
