November 14, 2010 — Image of a movie board on a blue background Comedy, drama, horror, documentary or silent… you’ll find your favorite kind of film at WestPhest, the Film & Video program’s annual film festival this Sunday, November 14th at 6:30 PM in Bossone’s Mitchell Auditorium (3128 Market Street). The fest will feature over 40 student films, produced for courses in Basic Film, Experimental, Narrative, Documentary, Advanced Film, Independent Projects and Production Workshop. Films created by last year’s senior class will also be screened in the Senior Project category, always a highlight of the fest.  Film & Video seniors undergo an intensive year-long senior project to produce and complete an entire film.  A senior project film can require a crew of eight to twenty members handling all the various production assignments. Students need to pre-produce and prep prior to shooting and they recruit fellow students to work on their productions. To cast their films, students seek out professional actors from Philadelphia and New York City. Budgets for senior projects sometimes become quite healthy adding fundraising as another important job that makes for a very busy final year for  Film & Video students

Films in eight categories will be screened in part and the finalists in each category will be shown in their entirety.  Judging and the selection of awards are determined by a faculty jury from the department of Cinema & Televisions department.  Tickets to WestPhest are $5 and can be purchased at the door.
