Off Campus

November 11, 2010

Off Campus logo featuring Philly SkylineOur student produced “dramedy” OFF CAMPUS will premiere on DUTV Friday, November 26th at 11 PM.  After a successful first season, a new crew of Westphal students went to work producing the television show that features a cast of professional actors.  Veteran television executive and our Television program director, Andrew Susskind, oversees the development and production of OFF CAMPUS, creating an interdisciplinary approach that has Screenwriting students writing scripts while Film & Video and Television students handle all aspects of production. Throughout the ten-week production schedule, students work in a variety of production roles: producer, director, gaffer, grip, audio engineer, lighting technician, camera operator and director of photography.  Interior Design students serve as art directors; Fashion Design students do costumes and makeup; and Music Industry students create the score.  The set environment provides students the opportunity to learn by doing alongside a faculty with decades of industry experience. This large undertaking engages dozens of students to coordinate all of the show’s logistics, which features a cast of five professional actors and multiple locations.

This new season of OFF CAMPUS continues to follow the misadventures of recent college graduates Claire, Dean, Felix, Hailey and Nick as they grapple with becoming adults. Felix believes he’s met the girl of his dreams, but this seeming true love is greeted with skepticism by his roommates. Claire and Dean try to work out the kinks in their relationship while focusing on their careers.  You can watch the drama and laughs unfold on DUTV (channel 33 on campus), and throughout Metropolitan Philadelphia via Comcast and Fios service providers.

Working with Susskind were Screenwriting & Playwriting instructor Stacy Bronte and Film & Video instructor Dave Schwartz who provided assistance with camera & lighting. The Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies supports OFF CAMPUS and you can watch last year’s episode on DUTV immediately before the premiere at 10:30 PM on Friday, the 26th or why not right now at
