Last Chance for Uncarved Wood

October 15, 2009

Chinese carved wood

"It's like discovering a turn-of-the-century Arts & Crafts community. Only the location is in China rather than any remote area of England or this country,' writes the Philadelphia Inquirer of Embracing the Uncarved Wood: Sculptural Reliefs from Shandong, China, on display in the Pearlstein Gallery through October 21st. Intricate wood carvings of young Chinese artists who have been deaf since birth or early childhood are the subject of this special show, making one of only two U.S. stops at Drexel. Combining traditional Chinese carving methods with very untraditional subject matter, Uncarved Wood boasts 18 large wood reliefs that are a "must see.'
