Anthropologie Lessons with Merchandising Guru Glen Senk
April 30, 2007 —
The Design & Merchandising program welcomes Glen Senk, mastermind of Anthropologie's highly successful and groundbreaking approach to merchandising, as their Distinguished Speaker for 2007.
Mr. Senk is expected to be named CEO of Anthropologie's parent company, Urban Outfitters, at its board meeting in May. He is internationally recognized for his success in marketing and merchandising, including prior executive positions with Williams-Sonoma (including Pottery Barn and Hold Everything) and Bloomingdale's.
Under Senk's leadership Anthropologie has grown from one store in Wayne, PA to a national chain with 51 stores earning $700 million per year. The chain is considered to be the gold standard in merchandising, and has cultivated a lifestyle brand that puts the customer first. Senk says, "We really know our customers. I get down and kiss the ground that they walk on. They are just delightful people. People have a real need for individuality. We try to cater to that."
