Gullah Artist Selected as 2006 Rankin Scholar in Residence

Selected Gullah ArtistThis year's Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design Rankin Scholar-in-Residence is Ms. Anita Singelton-Prather. Her two-day residence titled, Gullah: African and Africanism in America, will include four Gullah artists and expose the public to Gullah music, art, craft, dance, food and language while relating it all to African and African-American culture in American society today. Ms. Singleton Prather an internationally-known singer, actress, storyteller, historian and teacher has been featured on PBS, Good Morning America and in the film Forrest Gump.

      • "Gullah: The Genesis of African American History and Culture," 1:30-3:00PM. A performance workshop on Gullah music and culture.
      • "Gullah through the Arts," 4:00-6:00PM. A workshop featuring Gullah artists.
