Pearlstein Gallery and Judaic Studies Program Present Paintings by Samuel Bak

The Leonard Pearlstein Gallery, in conjunction with the Judaic Studies Program, is proud to present: From Genesis to Vilna, Paintings by Samuel Bak. The exhibition, which is open from November 20 - December 17, 2005, will begin with an Artist's Lecture on Sunday November 20 at 4:00 p.m. in Stein Lecture Hall. Afterwards, from 5-7 p.m., there will be an opening reception at the gallery including a book signing by the artist.
In addition to the exhibition and lecture at the Pearlstein Gallery, Bak's prints and biographical items will be on display on the first floor of the W.W. Hagerty Library. Bak will also be speaking at the American Association of Religion's annual meeting at the Philadelphia Convention Center.
Samuel Bak first exhibited his drawings in 1942 at the age of nine in Vilna, Poland, during the time of the Nazi occupation. From his humble and challenging beginnings as an artist, Bak went on to study art in Jerusalem and Paris, and has dedicated his life to dealing with the artistic expression of the destruction and dehumanization which make up his childhood memories.
