Dance: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor/Program Director

POSITION: The Department of Performing Arts at Drexel University's Westphal College of Media Arts and Design seeks candidates for a tenure-track position as assistant professor/ program director for a new bachelor of science in dance. The curriculum focuses on developing artistic vision and an understanding of dance on both intellectual and physical levels in preparation for careers in dance / movement therapy and dance in education.

QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE: PhD or EdD in dance or a related field with substantial professional experience and a minimum of five years university level teaching, with demonstrated experience as a program director or department chair. Other Doctoral degree titles may be considered on a case by case basis. Familiarity with the basic theories related to dance /movement therapy and current methods of dance education should be demonstrable.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in modern dance, dance composition, dance pedagogy, and dance aesthetics, and have the ability to choreograph for the Dance Program's concerts, as well as mentor student choreography. Administrative responsibilities include external educational and recruitment activities, curriculum development, hiring and supervising of adjunct faculty, student advisement, service on college and university committees, and service to the field. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to collaborate across disciplines, develop programming with community organizations, procure external funding and show evidence of scholarship/creative work in the field.
