Who should enroll in the Paul F. Harron Graduate Program in Television Management?

This program trains the next generation of leaders who will need the qualitative and quantitative skill sets that are the core of our curriculum in order to manage television in the future across multiple platforms.

The program is designed for people who have a strong interest in television management. This may include students who have recently finished their BA, graduates who are already part of the workforce, and those who are mid-career working professionals and see the program as an opportunity to increase their skills and opportunities for advancement in the workplace.


What options are open to me?

The standalone MS requires 48 credits and applications are taken on a rolling admission basis. The program also offers the combined MS/MBA course of study that requires 78 credits (48 for the MS, and an additional 30 credits in LeBow College of Business courses).


How do I apply for the joint MS/MBA program?

Students interested in the joint MS/MBA should apply first to the MS program. A second application will be made to the LeBow College of Business and this may be done before the student begins the MS program, or once the student has commenced studies in the MS program. Contact the Program Director for details.


What graduate assistantships are offered in the program?

There are a limited number of graduate assistantships available to qualified students. Students who receive an assistantship are assigned administrative responsibilities within the Department of Cinema & Television, receive tuition remission and a stipend during the term(s) they hold the assistantship. You must contact Professor Al Tedesco, Program Director 215-895-2180 for additional information.


Do I need to take the GRE or GMAT?

All students applying for the MS / MBA graduate degree must submit GMAT, or equivalent scores. (Please check with the LeBow College of Business at www.lebow.drexel.edu for current requirements.) How long does it take to complete the degree?

The program requires 48 credits and a Master's Thesis for completion. A full-time load is four courses per term. The 48 course credits can be completed within one academic year (four quarters). The writing of the Master's Thesis can take another six to twelve months.

Students can attend full or part time. Students considering attending part time should contact Professor Al Tedesco, Program Director 215-895-2180 to develop a plan of study, which will show how long it will take to complete the degree.


When are classes held?

Classes are taught in the evenings, after 6 PM. Some LeBow College of Business courses are offered online.


How many students are accepted into the program each year?

The program enrolls 32 students each year.


Do I need an undergraduate degree in a television, film, or media-related area?

Applicants are not required to have earned a degree in a media-related discipline.


Why is the Master's Thesis required?

The program requires a Master's Thesis because we believe that students should have the opportunity to contribute to knowledge in the field of television management as part of the transition into the profession. Not only will the thesis add to what we know about the field, but it will also demonstrate that the student has mastered the ability to problem-solve at a professional level. Thesis topics are chosen by the student in consultation with the student's advisor.

Is the program a member in any professional organizations?

The program works closely with the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) and other professional television organizations and co-sponsors seminars designed to bring television professionals in touch with students.


What TOEFL score is required of international students?

International students are required to take either the TOEFL or IELTS examinations.
