Ofra Uzan - Sheli

Born in 1972, Netivot, a daughter of an artist - a realistic sculptor who began specializing in Judaica when he was still a child living on the island of Jerba in Tunisia.

In 1990, she graduated from high school in the biology - chemistry stream.

In 1992, she completed her army service and began the studies of Construction engineering and architecture. At the same time she studied the history of art and sculpture theory - sculptures with various clay: wood, stone, cast metal, fabric, glassblowing, stained glass, interior decorating and feng shue. Among her teachers were Eliot Goldfinger from USA and Nachum Inbar. Ofra has been creating artworks since her early childhood, mostly paintings, sculptures and installations. In 1999, she and her brother opened the Fifth Foundation Gallery. There she began to give expression to her hidden potential as an artist. Among Ofra's characteristics as an artist is the deign of furniture which on the one hand, is beautiful, interesting and original, and on the other hand, is functional and practical. Ofra was mostly inspired by sculptures by Henry Moore, Anish Kappor, and colors of nature, painting by Van Gogh, Picasso and Matise, construction styles such as those of architects Frank Lloyd Wright, La Corbysier, Felix Candela, and La Defense.

Ofra designs furniture and lighting fixtures reminiscent of sensual sculptures, in organic shapes and vivid colors, and interwoven with humor. Today, in her work Ofra combines great experience, memories of the past, abstract and original ways of thought.

Ofra maintains a very fine border between design and art, reality and surrealism, between simplicity and sophistication and between art and pragmatism. She relates to her creative work as "cultural activity" and as a search for a meaningful aim.
