Co-operative Education is an opportunity for Westphal College students to gain valuable work experience and industry contacts as part of their college training. All students in the Westphal College participate in Co-op with the exception of Architecture students who complete a work-study program.
In preparation for Co-op, students take a course entitled COOP 101. This 0 credit course, is added to students schedule in the Sophomore year in either the Winter or Summer term. Students may not proceed to Co-op without having successfully completed this course.
Each Program Director and Co-op Coordinator will determine a students' Co-op cycle. Students in all majors (except MIP and EAM) go to Co-op in their junior year in either the fall/winter or spring/summer terms. Students in MIP and EAM go to Co-op in the summers during Sophomore and Junior years.
While Co-op is a required component of each program, academic credit is not granted for this experience. Students earn DCU (Drexel Co-op Units) after the successful completion of Co-op.

Will my previously earned credits transfer to Westphal College?
Courses that earn a grade of C or higher and are from an accredited institution are considered for transfer. Some courses require "department review" or further detailed information such as a syllabi or course description prior to transfer decision.
International transcripts must be evaluated by an independent evaluation agency- refer to International Transfer Students in Incoming Students section of this website.
What is meant by the term "Credit by Department Review" on my transcript evaluation?
Some courses require a review of the students work, skills and knowledge in a subject before a transfer decision can be made. In these cases, students meet with a designated instructor to discuss the possibility of credit transfer.
When are my credits reviewed for potential transfer to Westphal College?
After the student has been accepted into the College and the Official Transcript has been received, a transcript evaluation is conducted.
