An important role of the AAGA is to provide supplemental learning opportunities for arts administration students. Each year we offer the Otis Morse Memorial Award to a current student to help him or her develop their own personal library; we also coordinate an annual speaker event to bring regional and national speakers to campus to discuss current issues and trends impacting the field.
In years past, the AAGA has had many guest lecturers and guest panel discussions to enrich the education of its graduate students. This year the AAGA continues this tradition with two well-known speaker that will appeal to the entire Drexel community and beyond, one in the fall and one in the spring. The AAGA hopes these events bring new perspectives and opinions to the students, instructors, and community.
Check the AAGA Website for updated information on the 2011/2012 Speaker Series.
In 2004, the Arts Administration Graduate program lost one of its most beloved adjunct professors and famous graduates, Otis Morse. Professor Morse taught the Fund Development for the Arts class in the program for a decade. The most valuable lessons Professor Morse shared in the classroom came from his extensive experience in fund development throughout the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley region. The purpose of the Otis Morse Memorial is to help students invest in building their professional library in memory of Professor Otis Morse. Each recipient of a gift from the Otis Morse Memorial will have their books provided to them for the fall quarter. Any student of the Arts Administration program at Drexel University is eligible to be nominated to receive a gift from the Otis Morse Memorial, with the exception of the current Arts Administration Graduate Students Association (AAGA) board. The theme of the award is "volunteerism," in keeping with the way Otis Morse was giving of his time to various arts organizations around the Philadelphia area, including Drexel University. Eligible students will have given back their time to the Arts Administration Department, other Drexel students, and the AAGA.
