Beth Phillips is an Associate Professor in the Design & Merchandising program in Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. She provides the department with expertise in the areas of entrepreneurship, global product development and career development.
After a successful career in marketing luxury European fashion and home design companies in the United States, Beth re-engineered her skills and become a Career Transition and Development Coach. Her company, Phillips International (www.phillipscareerstrategies.com), works one-on-one with recent graduates and business professionals to identify their skills and interests, and to incorporate them into successful career transitions or job changes. She is also a co-author of Fashion Careers: The Complete Job Search Workbook (www.fashion-careers.com.), the definitive guide to conducting successful job searches and continuing career development in the fashion industries.
Teaching Philosophy: I see my job as not just imparting knowledge but training the next generation of design and merchandising professionals. Success in the global design industry hinges on the ability to make the most of unexpected market opportunities. I consistently augment proven teaching methods with real-world examples and up-to-the-moment business cases in which students are challenged to develop, present, and defend their strategic responses. My on-going work in international business and professional development brings a currency to class lectures and discussions that might not otherwise occur. I am passionate about teaching students the skills that they need to implement successful job searches starting with their first full-time position and continuing throughout their career.
