Darin Kelly (trumpet) appears frequently with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and is a member of the IRIS Orchestra, based in Memphis, TN. In addition, he has a diverse performance background in a variety of musics, including the music of the Baroque, early American jazz, and traditional Irish music. His 2002 CD with soprano Julianne Baird, Soprano Arias with Trumpet and Organ has been hailed by critics worldwide as 'seamless playing that is equally light and virtuosic.' He has recorded for the Albany, Ondine, Naxos, and Deutsche Gramophon labels.
Mr. Kelly is an arranger, orchestrator, and composer whose music has been played by symphony orchestras, brass ensembles, concert bands, and mixed ensembles across North America. A recent collaboration with saxophonist Branford Marsalis was hailed by the Memphis Commercial Appeal as 'a rip-roaring triumph.'
His Bachelors and Masters degrees are from the University of Michigan, with additional graduate study in orchestral literature at McGill.
He has held teaching positions at Rowan University and the University of Pennsylvania in addition to Drexel, where he has been on the performance faculty since 1998.
