2007 Style Tribes
Visual Merchandising 2 focuses on in-depth study of exhibit design. Students explore the traditions, expectations and norms of exhibit design, while being introduced to technological advances in exhibit and graphic design.
Using Style Tribes as a theme, students design hands-on projects which engage as many physical senses as possible through 2-D presentations, sound, multimedia and installation. In addition, students create branding and promotional marketing materials for the exhibit and a group piece used as an educational vehicle for programs at the gallery. Students mount the exhibit and stage an opening reception at MYX gallery in Old City. June 2007 marked the 5th successful year of Style Tribes.
Style Tribes v 5.0 explores the tribal connection between fashion, music and specific social groups with a collection of works by ten Design & Merchandising students from Drexel University. Each student created an installation complete with sound and various other elements designed to engage the senses of touch, taste and/or smell and a separate multi-media piece specific to their assigned tribe. The 2007 tribes and their creators are:
- Rockabillies - Nicole Fellenz
- Taggers - Annamarie Daoud
- Bike Messengers - Lauren Klein
- Pop Princesses - Teri Weiner
- Polite Society - Lauren Wuscher
- Femme Fetales - Kelli Allen
- Tree Huggers - Rory Patten
- Hyphy - Jessica Stilson
- Queens of Drag - Kimberly Sokolski
- Surf Savvy - Laura Matzel
