Architecture Program

Overview

The practice of architecture requires a unique skill set of creative thinking and aesthetic sensitivity balanced with technical and mathematical knowledge, cultural understanding, social responsibility, and the ability to manage and communicate effectively. Drexel's Bachelor of Architecture curriculum is designed to encompass foundation courses in the physical and social sciences and the humanities, and professional architecture courses to prepare students for the various career opportunities in architecture and related fields.

Drexel offers two routes to obtaining a Bachelor of Architecture degree: The Two + Four Option and the Part-time Evening Option.

The Two+Four Option

The Two+Four Option is an accelerated route leading to a Bachelor of Architecture degree including four years of professional work experience. In this program, the first two years of full-time course work address the basic principles of architectural design and satisfy university core requirements in the arts and sciences. During these years, a student completes 101 of the 221 credits required for graduation.

Upon successful completion of the college's minimum requirements for the first two years, students begin full-time employment with part-time evening classes for the remaining four years.

Part-Time Evening Program

The Part-Time Evening Program is one of only two accredited part-time evening architectural programs in the United States, and the only one in the Delaware Valley, leading to a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Offering all evening classes, the program enables students to work full time in the architectural profession while pursuing their studies. Work experience obtained before graduation receives full or partial credit towards state licensure requirements.

The part-time course of study usually takes seven years to complete, but exceptional students can reduce its length to six years by meeting specific departmental requirements. The program is structured into three areas of study: The studio/thesis sequence (87 credits); required and elective architectural coursework (65 credits); and required university coursework (69 credits).
