Architecture
For two intensive weeks, while living on campus at Drexel University, you'll experience what it's like to study architecture in college. You'll attend classes taught by Drexel Department of Architecture faculty members in studios and computer labs used by Drexel architecture students. You'll go on field trips to significant architectural sites in Philadelphia, hear lectures by distinguished speakers, and, working closely with an instructor, you'll try your hand at architectural design.
Eligibility: High school students at least 16 years of age who have completed their junior year by the start of the program are welcome to apply. The program is held during the month of July.
Dance
Drexel University invites you to our Hip-Hop Summer Dance Intensive. This intensive is a unique one-week program of technique, theory and foundations for teaching Hip-Hop dance. The Program Director and creator Moncell Durden will be joined by master instructors Sabela Grimes and DeAndre Carol who will be teaching styles ranging from Hip-Hop social party dances, 70's social party dances, locking, top rocking, to popping, house, African, Latin and authentic social Jazz. The curriculum is both strenuous and rewarding, challenging dancers to refine technique and increase knowledge.
Fashion Design and Design & Merchandising
For two exciting weeks, come live on our campus and explore “hands-on” the fields of Fashion Design, or Design & Merchandising. You will attend classes taught by Drexel faculty studios and labs used by our very own students. In studios will spend valuable time sketching and designing products, projects, and more. Field trips will give you an insider's look at top retailers, designer boutiques and yes, even upscale merchants to discover where fashion and merchandising meet. You will even get to create the beginnings of your own personal design portfolio that can play an important role in applying to college.
Eligibility: We welcome high school students who are 16 years of age who have completed their sophomore year by July 2008. We encourage anyone who is excited about design to apply and we limit the program to 16 students.
Interior Design
For two intensive weeks, while living on campus at Drexel University, you'll experience what it's like to study interior design in college. You'll attend classes taught by Drexel faculty members in studios and computer labs used by Drexel interiors students. You'll go on field trips to significant interiors in Philadelphia, hear lectures by distinguished speakers, and, working closely with an instructor, you'll try your hand at interior design.
Eligibility: High school students at least 16 years of age who have completed their junior year by the start of the program are welcome to apply. The program is held during the month of July.
Music Industry
Music is more than your favorite performer. Behind that microphone are teams of professionals writing the songs, mixing the sound, promoting the artist, booking venues, signing new talent, and crafting every aspect of what you hear.
Our summer program is designed to introduce you to the music industry as a whole through a one week intensive workshop. The courses offered are based upon our degree curriculum and are taught by our faculty of industry professionals. Through the classroom, hands-on studio experience in our recording lab facilities, performance opportunities, lectures, and guest speakers, you will gain valuable insight into this dynamic field.
"The Drexel Summer Music Program gave our son a concrete view of what is available for him in terms of career options, areas of study, and, most of all, a life that includes his interests with the ability to make a living. - Mother of a former Summer Music Industry Program student
Screenwriting
For two exciting weeks, come live on our campus and receive intensive training as a screenwriter. You will attend classes taught by our faculty in Drexel's Screenwriting & Playwriting degree program. Program Director Ian Abrams is a 20-year Hollywood veteran and creator of the CBS TV series 'Early Edition.' He serves as the primary instructor for the Summer Residency Program. You will be taught the basics of a demanding craft, and get the chance to assess your future in this competitive, but highly rewarding, industry. All of this takes place in the heart of Philadelphia. Philadelphia will serve as part of your classroom; you'll be guided around town and encouraged to use the city as inspiration for your craft.
Eligibility: High school students at least 16 years of age who have completed their sophomore or junior year of high school by the start of the program are welcome to apply. The program is held during the month of July.
