Julie Hawkins joined Drexel University as Program Director and Assistant Professor of Arts Administration after serving as Executive Vice President for the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. In her 12-year tenure at the Cultural Alliance, Julie led the organization’s advocacy, field research, community engagement, and grantmaking efforts. Her notable advocacy wins include the creation of arts platforms by Mayoral and Gubernatorial candidates, the restoration of Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, and the defeat of a proposed state sales tax expansion that would have levied an additional 6% on all arts and entertainment admissions. She also led groundbreaking research projects including the creation of Portfolio, a comprehensive report on the depth, breadth, and health of nonprofit cultural organizations using regional data from the Cultural Data Project. At Drexel, she teaches courses in organizational management and cultural policy, and conducts research on organizational strategy.
